PVC and PE Playmats - What's the Difference?
You will notice that Softmats carry's both PVC and some new PE (polyethylene) playmats with both types
being large, practical, easy to wipe clean, and comfortable. Both product types are also non-toxic and safe for families
and have been fully tested to exceed international standards.
The PVC Playmats in general are more durable, flexible, softer to touch, and heavier. The PVC play mats are also
reversible and great for outdoor use, whereas the PE play mats have a non-slip reverse that is not really designed for
grass and the outdoors.
The life expectancy of both products will always depend on how they are used. However as an indication the PVC products
are expected to be used everyday for 5-10 years before being donated or recycled when no longer needed, where as the PE
playmats are rated for 1-5 years of home use.
The other main difference is pricing and as you will notice the PVC product lines are priced significantly higher than
the PE play mats. This is due to manufacturing costs associated with both product types to produce safe non-toxic
play mats.
